Day 2: Yerevan Full-Day City Tour
After breakfast, we explore the Armenian capital, Yerevan. One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, Yerevan is an ideal starting point for discovering Armenia, with its fascinating architecture, lively squares, and historic landmarks.
Various squares and districts invite you to stroll through the city. The heart of Yerevan beats in Kentron, the city center, where the two main squares — Republic Square and Freedom Square — are connected by a vibrant pedestrian zone.
Visit Matenadaran (Armenian for “Library”), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a unique repository of ancient manuscripts that hold immense cultural value for Armenia. Here, you can see the largest book weighing 28 kg and the smallest weighing only 19 grams.
Visit the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex, dedicated to the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915.
Evening at leisure. You may enjoy an evening walk along Northern Avenue toward Republic Square to admire the famous dancing fountains (starting from 9:00 PM).
Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 3: Yerevan – Khor Virap – Areni Wine Tasting – Noravank
After breakfast, drive through picturesque mountain villages and vineyards to Khor Virap Monastery, located near the foot of Mount Ararat. The monastery offers a unique view of the biblical Mount Ararat, where Noah’s Ark is believed to have rested.
Please note: visibility of Mount Ararat depends on weather conditions and season.
Continue to Areni, a village renowned for its wine production. Here you will enjoy a wine tasting featuring regional wines made from local Areni grape varieties.
Proceed to Noravank Monastery (13th century), dramatically situated at the end of a narrow gorge atop a rocky outcrop. Enjoy the harmony of nature and architecture while admiring the three-story church and princely tombs.
Return to Yerevan for overnight stay.
Day 4: Yerevan – Zvartnots Cathedral – Etchmiadzin Cathedral – St. Hripsime Church – Gumi Shuka
A short drive from the capital brings you to Etchmiadzin, often referred to as the “Armenian Vatican,” the spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church and residence of the Catholicos.
En route, stop at the ruins of Zvartnots Cathedral (7th century, UNESCO World Heritage Site), Armenia’s first circular church. Severely damaged by an earthquake in the 10th century, it was excavated more than 1,000 years later.
Continue to the Etchmiadzin Cathedral (301–303 AD, UNESCO World Heritage Site), one of the oldest Christian cathedrals in the world. On the return to Yerevan, visit St. Hripsime Church (UNESCO World Heritage Site), considered one of Armenia’s architectural jewels.
Visit Gumi Shuka, a traditional market offering a curated selection of local products such as fruits, vegetables, and dried fruits.
Evening at leisure. Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 5: Yerevan – Geghard Monastery – Garni Temple – Symphony of Stones
Drive to Garni, the former summer residence of Armenian kings and home to the only preserved pagan temple in the Caucasus built in Greco-Roman style. Here, you will observe the preparation of traditional Armenian lavash bread and brduj.
Lunch at a local home or restaurant.
Afterwards, explore the Garni Gorge and the spectacular basalt rock formations known as the “Symphony of Stones,” formed millions of years ago by slowly flowing lava.
Visit Geghard Monastery (4th century, UNESCO World Heritage Site), an outstanding masterpiece of medieval Armenian architecture. Much of the complex is carved directly into the rock and set within a stunning natural landscape at the entrance to the Azat Gorge. Locals still use this site for baptisms and weddings, so you may witness a traditional ceremony.
Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 6: Yerevan – Sevanavank Monastery – Dilijan – Yerevan
Visit Sevanavank Monastery (9th century), located on the Sevan Peninsula. This spot offers one of the most breathtaking views of Lake Sevan, perfectly capturing its vast beauty.
Continue to Dilijan, famous for both its natural surroundings and architectural heritage. Mountains and forests surround the town, visible from almost anywhere. A walking tour through the old town reveals distinctive 19th-century balconies and terraces, showcasing local craftsmanship in fine woodwork.
