Luxury Journey from Cape Town to St Francis Bay

South Africa | Six destinations: Port Elizabeth, Cape St. Francis, Plettenberg Bay, Hermanus, Franschoek & Cape Town |
Five hotels | Eleven nights
Day 1: Arrival in Cape Town
Welcome to South Africa! Upon arrival at Cape Town Airport, collect your rental car at the Europcar counter. Drive into the city and check in at your accommodation. You will spend the first three nights here while exploring Cape Town and its surroundings at your own pace. Alternatively, optional day tours can be booked on request, such as a Bo-Kaap or Company’s Garden tour, Table Mountain, or the Cape Peninsula.
Day 2: Cape Town
Today we recommend a Peninsula Tour to the Cape of Good Hope—an unforgettable highlight of any South Africa trip. The famous Cape lies in an 8,000-hectare nature reserve known as Cape Peninsula National Park. The drive itself is spectacular, featuring Boulders Beach penguin colony, the charming town of Simon’s Town, long beaches, and the iconic Chapman’s Peak Drive overlooking False Bay.
Day 3: Cape Town
On a wind-free day, take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain—an absolute must for every visitor. From here you’ll enjoy stunning views of the city, the harbour, and Robben Island.
If you’re interested in South African history, explore the Bo-Kaap district & museum or the South African Museum.
If you enjoy hiking, climb Lion’s Head for spectacular views over the city and Table Mountain.
End the day with an optional sunset catamaran cruise from the V&A Waterfront, followed by dinner at one of the many restaurants.
Day 4: From Cape Town to the Winelands – Franschhoek
Your journey continues into the Winelands, located just outside Cape Town. The Huguenots began wine production here over 200 years ago due to the region’s 300 days of sunshine. Today, the towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are world-famous for their award-winning wines.
Stroll along Franschhoek’s Main Road with its cafés, restaurants, galleries, and boutiques, take the famous Wine Tram, or visit estates such as Boschendal or Babylonstoren.
Day 5: Franschhoek
The surrounding towns are also well worth a visit, such as Stellenbosch—known for its university and wine culture—or Paarl, home to the Afrikaans Language Monument.
A special experience is the Wine Drive Safari at Waterford Estate: a 2–3 hour open 4x4 tour through the estate’s 120 hectares, offering wine tastings right among the very vines they come from. You’ll learn about what makes this region so biodiverse and unique. Homemade snacks complement each wine, and the experience ends with a wine-and-chocolate pairing.
Day 6: From Franschhoek to the Overberg / Whale Coast
Today you leave the Winelands and head toward the coast, into the Overberg region and Whale Coast. Between May and November, whales gather here to give birth in the warmer waters. The region is also known for natural beauty, excellent food, and charming boutique wineries—especially in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.
Day 7: Whale Coast – Hermanus
Take a walk in the Walker Bay Nature Reserve or along the famous Cliff Path. With some luck, you may spot dolphins and whales from the shore. Optional activities include a Marine Big 5 tour for close encounters with whales, dolphins, and seals, or for thrill-seekers, shark cage diving.
Day 8: Hermanus to Plettenberg Bay
Continue along the N2 past George, through Wilderness and Knysna, to Plettenberg Bay—your base for exploring the Garden Route. Enjoy a Knysna Lagoon cruise (with regional oysters), an eco-tour to Featherbed Nature Reserve, a hike in Robberg Nature Reserve, or simply relax on Plettenberg Bay’s beaches.
The Tsitsikamma National Park is also nearby, offering Storms River hikes, kayaking, or even the world’s highest commercial bungee jump.
Day 9: Plettenberg Bay
How about a trip to The Crags with boutique wineries, a visit to Storms River Mouth, and a delicious lunch at Enrico’s on Keurbooms Beach? A hike in Robberg Nature Reserve is also highly recommended.
Day 10: Plettenberg Bay to St Francis Bay
Drive along the Garden Route toward St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape. Enjoy the region’s beautiful landscapes—perfect for photography. On the way, you may stop again at Tsitsikamma National Park and the Storms River Mouth, known for pristine nature and beaches.
Day 11: St Francis Bay
This seaside town offers beautiful beaches, excellent water sports, and a relaxed lifestyle surrounded by nature. Flanked by the Baviaanskloof mountains and the Indian Ocean, it provides a peaceful escape from everyday life.
Spend the day at the beach, join an ocean or canal cruise, visit local penguins or enjoy a frog safari. St Francis Bay is also a fantastic golf destination. All activities are optional.
Day 12: St Francis to Port Elizabeth – Departure
Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye. Make your way to Port Elizabeth Airport, return your rental car, and check in for your onward or return flight.
We hope you enjoyed your South Africa journey and look forward to welcoming you back!
If you’d like to continue your adventure, consider adding a safari in the Eastern Cape or Kruger National Park.
